Originally founded by Mark Stewart in fall of 1999, the UMBC Cycling Team consists of students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County who simply like to bike. The university is located in Catonsville, Maryland, right outside the Baltimore beltway. In terms of cycling, the campus is literally across the street from Patapsco Valley State Park, which offers extensive mountain biking, some would say the best in the whole tri-state area. Being between suburban Catonsville, Arbutus, and the outskirts of urban Baltimore, UMBC's campus offers various road riding opportunities. UMBC Cycling Team members compete as a team in the Atlantic Collegiate Cycling Conference (acccycling.org). Several members also compete individualy in local area Crit, MTB, Cross, and Road races. |
